Mary Jo Mennella (President) founded Music Asset Management, Inc. (MAM), an independent music publishing and consulting company, in 2006 and is based in Encino, California. The firm specializes in music administration services for songwriters, composers, music publishers and media companies. The company prides itself in maximizing its clients’ earnings with an emphasis on domestic and international copyright, royalty and licensing administration.
The firm’s administration and consulting clients include Bill Silva Management/Silva Music Publishing, the estate of Bobby Troup (which includes Bobby’s iconic signature song, “Route 66”), Warner Telepictures Productions, top film & television composer agency Evolution Music Partners, David Rose Music Publishing and award-winning composers Phil Garrod & Reed Hays of OSI Music. Other notable administration clients of MAM are Tena Clark, Shawn Clement, Harry Shearer and Judith Owen. Kraft-Engel Management, Neophonic, Format Entertainment, Riptide Music and Latin Music Specialists have also relied on the expertise provided by the MAM team in recent years. In addition, MAM is proud to represent the MusiCares Foundation providing clearance services for their most recent Person of the Year Tributes including Neil Young, Paul McCartney, Carole King and Bruce Springsteen.
In 2014, Music Asset Management formed a joint venture with one of LA’s top independent publishers & creative powerhouse, Pulse Recording, to form Pulse Publishing Administration LLC (PPA) representing a roster of over 90 catalogs including #1 singles by Bonnie McKee (Katy Perry), Tim Pagnotta (Neon Trees) and Drew Pearson (Philip Phillips), along with more recent signings Christian ‘Bloodshy’ Karlsson (Gallantis) and songwriter/artist, BØRNS. Pulse Publishing Administration oversees Pulse’s joint venture with Creative Nation, a leading Nashville music publishing company.
Prior to launching Music Asset Management, Mary Jo was the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Music Publishing at Fox Filmed Entertainment and was charged with overseeing the publishing and master recording catalogs for 20th Century Fox, Fox Broadcasting and affiliated production units. Before joining Fox, Mary Jo was a key executive at Saban Entertainment and at ASCAP where she began her career in the entertainment business.
Mary Jo serves on the Songwriter Hall of Fame Board of Directors and is Chairman of West Coast events for the organization. Mennella is a past President of the Association of Independent Music Publishers; past Chairman of the City of Hope’s Music & Entertainment Industry Group and was a past recipient of the Women in Music Touchstone Award for her contributions to the music industry.
Keith Taylor (Chief Financial Officer) oversees MAM’s financial interests including accounting services for the company. Keith has spent more than 30 years in the financial services industry. The majority of his career has been spent in the banking industry where he functioned in a wide array of positions including Regional Vice President, Chief Credit Officer and Entertainment Division Manager. For eight years, he was the managing partner and owner of an independent accounting and business management firm that specialized in taxation and venture capital matters.
Denise Maurin (Business Affairs Management) joined Music Asset Management as a Consultant in February 2014 and subsequently assumed the role of oversight of Business Affairs. Denise specializes in Copyright, Licensing, Business Affairs and operational efficiencies. Prior to joining MAM she served as Senior Vice President at Music Sales Corp. in both New York and Los Angeles as head of administration performing due diligence on numerous writer and publishing catalogue acquisitions. Denise began her career in New York at ASCAP and relocated to the west coast working at ASCAP then moving on to Berry Gordy’s Jobete Music and later Famous Music (a division of Paramount Pictures).
Manny Cruz (Royalty Manager) is a veteran of royalty administration having spent 9 years at peermusic followed by 2 years at Tune Core. Manny, a Cal State Northridge graduate, joined MAM in 2015 and is responsible for oversight of all royalty distributions, statement analysis and acts as liaison to all MAM clients for royalty matters.
Randy Williams (Manager, Copyright and Licensing) is a music industry veteran who joined MAM in 2015. Prior to joining MAM, Randy worked for record labels and publishers including EMI/Capitol, Universal, PolyGram and he helped establish the U.S. office of Notting Hill Music. Randy is responsible for copyright and licensing matters and manages our international sub-publishing activity.
Nate Harar (Royalty Coordinator) joined Music Asset Management at the end of 2015 and brings with him 5+ years of experience within the music publishing industry. He’s responsible for royalty statement entry and client statement processing, as well as providing various administration support.
